James Lawler Obituary
James "Jim" Lawler

FRAZEYSBURG: James "Jim" Lawler, 74, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died early Wednesday morning, August 6, 2014 at Willow Haven Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 21, 1940 in Urbana, Ohio he was a son of the late Joseph and Edna (Collett) Lawler and was a 1958 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. While in high school he lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball and he was a member of the band. After high school he attended The Ohio State University. Jim worked as an operator for AEP and he retired in 2002 with 25 years of service. He was also a carpenter, building many houses in the early seventies. He was very active in youth league coaching as he coached football, baseball and basketball and he was the Tri-Valley Junior High School track coach for 14 years. He assisted on the "Chain Gang" at Tri-Valley High School football games for over 10 years. Jim was also a 4-H and Boy Scout leader. He was a member of the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, deacon and trustee, as well as teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir for many years. He was also a 43 year member of Frazeysburg Lodge #490, F. & A. M. and a member of the Jaycees.

Jim was a wonderful mentor to many and never knew a stranger. His hobbies included bowling, golf and woodworking. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sue. They traveled to Russia, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, Holland, El Salvador, Mexico and all over the United States. They also went on a mission trip to Nicaragua. Jim touched many lives by helping others. He never knew a stranger and was truly a man who would "turn the other cheek". He will be missed by many.

Surviving is his loving wife of 54 years, Sue (Johnston) Lawler whom he married July 17, 1960; four sons and daughters in-law, Scott (Heather) Lawler and Darin (Michelle) Lawler, both of Dresden and Eric (Kim) Lawler and Steve (Emily) Lawler both of Frazeysburg. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and they include, Jacob and Sammy, Chris and Josh, Alex, Kelsey and Nathan, Hannah, Lauren, A. J. and Grady. Also surviving is one brother, Joseph (Hap) Lawler; brothers in-law, John Cannon and Dr. Kent (Mary Ann) Johnston; sisters in-law, Connie (Ray) Copeland, Nancy (Eddie) Cochran, Marcia (John) Trakas and Arlene (Crayton) Shumaker.
