Emigrace Finnell

FRAZEYSBURG: Emigrace Finnell, 57, of Nashport, Ohio died Wednesday afternoon, August 6, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by her loving family.

Born April 12, 1957 in Newark, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Kenneth E. and Helen C. (Dixon) Young, Sr. and was a 1975 graduate of Tri-Valley High School. She received her Bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and Master's Degree from Ohio University. Mrs. Finnell was a dedicated and excellent teacher at Tri-Valley Schools for 33 years teaching first and second grades and was dearly loved by her colleagues and students. Over the years she mentored new Tri-Valley teaching staff, worked with numerous student teachers, and taught summer school for many years. One of her favorite things to do besides teaching students was working together with her dear friend and colleague, Cheryl, and creating fun, interesting, and engaging lessons for her students. As an outstanding educator, Emigrace was the recipient of the Tri-Valley Educator of the Year Award, the MVESC Exemplary Educator of the Year Award, and the Zanesville Rotary Teacher of the Year Award. She was an avid Ohio State and Tri-Valley Scotties fan. Emigrace was a member of the Nashport-Irville United Methodist Church, Jefferson PTO, Ohio Education Association and was a Tri-Valley Highland Flingers Alumni. She was very active in area youth league sports and enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband, Greg Finnell whom she married September 10, 1977; a son and daughter in-law, Braden and Heather Finnell of Nashport; a daughter, Abbie Finnell of Nashport; two grandchildren, Jace and Bracen Finnell; a brother and sister in-law, Kenneth and Sherry Young, Jr. of Newark; a niece, Teresa Johnson and a great nephew, Hayden Beaver, both of Newark.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Keith L. Young who died December 9, 2009.

Calling hours will 2 to 5pm and 6 to 8pm Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute, 110 West Third Street.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Nashport-Irville Untied Methodist Church, 7941 O'Bannon Road, Nashport, with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will be in Irville Cemetery.
