Grace A. Wood

DRESDEN: Grace A. Wood, 93, of Dresden, Ohio died Monday morning, August 11, 2014 at Emeritus at North Hills in Zanesville, Ohio.

Born May 27, 1921 in Pickerington, Ohio she was a daughter of the late Richard and Fay Leota (Brown) Schumacher, Sr. and was a 1939 graduate of Pickerington High School. Mrs. Wood received her Bachelor's degree from Capital University in 1943. She retired in 1985 from Tri-Valleys Schools. She had a great love for children and teaching and taught second and third grade at Dresden Jefferson Elementary school for many years. Grace was a member of the Trinway United Methodist Church, the Sorosis Society of Dresden and enjoyed reading and gardening. She was especially dedicated to her family and loved being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry Wood of Dresden and Mark (Jane) Wood of Ontario, Ohio; three daughters, Marcia (Chuck) Mason of Worthington, Ohio, Jacalyn (Lowell) Morton of Loraine, Ohio and Sally (Ralph) Fusner of Zanesville; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Georgia) Schumacher of New Mexico, a sister, Mary Myers of Lancaster; Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carleston J. Wood whom she married May 29, 1946 and who died February 15, 2003, a brother, Richard Schumacher, Jr. and a sister, Dorothy Fladt.

Calling hours will be form 10am to Noon on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Funeral services will be at Noon Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the funeral home with the Rev. Sharon Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
