Mary Ann Mahaffey

NASHPORT: Mary Ann Mahaffey, 79, of Nashport, Ohio passed away Saturday afternoon, August 23, 2014 at Genesis Morrison House surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 6, 1934 in Zanesville, Ohio she was the daughter of the late William Curtis and Anna Marie (Shaffer) Mattingly and was a 1954 graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School. Mary Ann was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Zanesville and was retired from the Licking County Department of Human Services. She had a great love of rural life. She raised hogs on her farm for many years and enjoyed gardening. She especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are four sons, William (Karen) Mahaffey of Somerset, Ohio, Patrick (Betsy) Mahaffey of Zanesville, Michael Mahaffey of Columbus, Ohio and Brian (Tammy) Mahaffey of Warren, Ohio; three daughters, Ann Marie (Robert) Smeltzer of Nashport, Kathleen (Doug) Brown of Zanesville and Lisa (Michael) Hill of Lubeck, West Virginia; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and a sister in-law, Ginnie Mattingly of Zanesville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard L. Mahaffey whom she married August 21, 1954 and who died April 29, 2012; a son, Joseph Mahaffey and a brother, Richard Mattingly.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street with Christian Wake services at 8pm and Rosary recited at 8:30pm.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Mattingly Settlement with the Rev. Father Donald Franks officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Mattingly Settlement Cemetery, Nashport.
