CANAL WINCHESTER: Charles Clayton "Tony" Linn, age 92, passed away in his sleep at his son & daughter's home in Canal Winchester, Saturday, September 29, 2012. He was born May 3, 1920 in Winterset, Ohio, the son of Carson and May Johnston Linn and grew to adulthood on a farm in western Guernsey County.

He graduated from New Concord High School with the class of 1939. A veteran of WWII, he served as a Fighter Pilot in the Army Air Corps and completed some 75 combat missions flying P-38s with the 5th Air Force in the New Guinea and Philippines area of the Pacific Theater. He married Emma Norma Herold of Zanesville on December 21, 1947, who preceded him in death on June 4, 2012.

He began a 42 year career with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company in Zanesville in 1940 as an Installer and after assignments in Coshocton, Steubenville, Columbus and Dayton, retired in 1982 as a District Manager of Outside Plant Engineering.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his only sibling, brother Floyd, in 1974; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Stockdale and Otto Herold; as well as sisters-in-law, Amelia Stockdale and Betty Herold; and niece, Christine Herold.

He is survived by son Charles Clayton "Chuck" Jr., and his dearly loved wife, Corie; also sister-in-law, Marjorie A. Linn; and nieces, Dorothy Barnes and Violet Mae Cramer, all of the Twin Falls, ID area, Dorothy Jean Jenkins, of Valrico, FL, and Melanie (Leverett) Bleakney, of Zanesville; also nephews, Rodney (Debbie) Herold, of Lancaster, and Jerry (Dottie) Stockdale, of Brunswick, GA.

Friends may visit 5-8 pm Tuesday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester. Graveside service and interment will be 11 am Wednesday, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Zanesville.
