Roberta Jean Ross Mathews

NORWICH: It is with great sorrow the family of Roberta annnounce her passing peacefully at her home in Norwich with her family at her side Tuesday evening. Roberta's health had declined over the last three years.

Roberta is survived by her husband, John B. Mathews. They were married July 31, l944 in N. Hollywood, Calif. before John left for serv ice in World War II.

Roberta was a loving mother and will be greatly missed by her three children, daughter, Nancy (John) Godby of Zanesville, sons, Tommy Lee (Carol) Mathews and Jeffrey Alan (Tammy) Mathews of Norwich. Roberta was mam-ma to five beloved grandchildren, Jodi (John) Wagner, Lori (Brian) Frank, Adam (Shannon) Mathews, and Spencer and Ross Mathews; five great-grandchildren, Jay E. Wagner, Jenna & Jessica Durant, and Laney & Logan Mathews; six nephews and five nieces.

Roberta, 88 years old, was born July 16, 1924, in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Virgil P. and Mary Johnson Ross. She was the last living child of Virgil & Mary. Roberta was preceded in death by three brothers, Beryl, Burton, and Virgil (Donald) Ross and sister Evelyn Anderson.

Roberta had fond memories of her early life in Cambridge, on 8th Street road at their family home. Roberta and John built the Siesta Motel in Norwich in 1952 which they owned and operated for many years. For 61 years they raised their family in their home adjanct to the motel.

Roberta was a 1944 graduate of Brown High School in Cambridge, and had worked at Montgomery Ward and Continential Can in the mid 1940s. She was a member of the Norwich United Methodist Church.

Roberta's family and friends will miss her, and love her memory forever.

Family and friends are invited for viewing, visiting, and paying their respects to Roberta from 5- 8 PM Friday, April 26, at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 West Main Street, New Concord. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norwich United Methodist Church, 10585 North Street, Norwich, OH 43767.
