ZANESVILLE: Royal R. Wilson, 66, of Zanesville, Ohio passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 with the family at his bedside at The Morrison House in Zanesville, OH following a battle with melanoma.
Royal was born January 22, 1947 in Zanesville, OH.
He retired from American Electric Power after 41 years of service.
Royal was a graduate of Muskingum College and the first person to complete AEP's Educational Program. He served in the Air Force Reserves and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed nature, animals, working with his hands in carpentry and landscaping, meeting new people, visiting historical sites, rounds on the golf links, and all sporting activities. He was a Buckeye and West Virginia Mountaineer fan as well as a faithful Cleveland Browns and Indians supporter.
Royal was preceded in death by his father, Everett Leasure Wilson; and brother, Thomas Eugene Wilson. Royal leaves his devoted wife, Sharen Ann Wilson, with whom he celebrated more than 46 years of marriage. He also leaves his only child, Wendy Lee Wilson. He is survived by his mother, Anna Gertrude Wilson; sister, Mary Anna Alessandro; brother, Harry Lealand Wilson; six nieces and many cousins.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the caring hospice staff at The Morrison House in Zanesville.
Visitation will be 9am to 11am Monday, October 7th, 2013 at the Farus Funeral Home in Duncan Falls, where funeral services will be 11am with Dr. Dennis Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Duncan Falls Cemetery with full military honors provided by the US Air Force Color Guard.
