Desmond Austin Obituary
Ocala - Desmond G. Austin, 67, beloved husband and father, passed away at home November 28, 2007 of natural causes. Desmond was the former Marion County Republican chairman, a retired paper industry executive, and U.S. Army veteran. He was a lifelong volunteer for education causes. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Desmond is survived by his wife, Mary Eleanor; daughter Lucy Suzanne Austin of Ashburn, VA; brothers William and Joseph, both of New Jersey; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Desmond was predeceased in death by both parents, a sister Maureen, and brothers Patrick and Peter. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at HIERS FUNERAL HOME, 910 Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL. Arrangements by HIERS FUNERAL HOME, Ocala.

Des had a powerful intellect but kept both feet firmly planted on the ground. This combination of common sense and intelligence was a valued source of advice and guidance for me during our friendship. I never saw him compromise his principles nor fear to take a stand on them. Never boastful, always quick witted and a true gentleman...he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you Mary.
