I recently learned that the store was no longer open and then unfortunately discovered our former teacher was no long with us. I have very fond memories of the various groups he ran at Firestone High School and propelled through his skill and enthusiasm and good nature. I owe a debt of gratitude for how he inspired us all.

I'm sure it's because of Joseph Lentine that I continue to play music. Although I was inexperienced, he allowed me to join the Buchtel bands: Marching and Concert. Every few weeks, he would give me another instrument to learn: Cymbals, cornet, oboe. Now I play in two bands: The Lyon Street Celtic Band
http://lyonstreetcelticband.com/
and Sens Unique - A French band.
Great fun and a good challenge. Thank you Joseph Lentine

Of all the people I've known in my life, Joe Lentine was the kindest. As my teacher at Firestone High School, then as a very good friend and collegue. We worked together many times. When he retired to take over Palucci Music I was not surprised...he never was one to sit and do nothing. I know how proud he was of his family and children. He never though Mike would grow up, but he did and saw Lentine's Music through 30 years of success. He was proud. He was a great teacher. He was a great friend. I've missed him all the years since moving from Akron. Now I will know that he is not resting, but teaching and reparing instruments for all who went before him. I am saddened, but aware that we will meet again.

Dear family of Joe Lentine
I recently heard of the passing of Mr. Lentine (as I knew him). I was a flute player in his band in the early 70's and have been playing and teaching band ever since. He had such a gift of sharing music, inspiring with kindness and making everything fun. I have such fond memories of being his student and of working with him at band camp when I graduated. He was an inspiration to me and I am a band teacher today because of him. My deepest condolonces to you for the loss of this kind, talented and wonderful man.

Mr Lentine was my high school band director at Firestone High School from 1971-1974. I have been a public school band director for 29 years and he is the inspiration for my going into the profession. Once teaching he gave me hints on how to be a successfull music teacher. I will always be grateful.

To Aunt Vee, Marty, Michael and Mathew....As I read through all these wonderful messages from students, friends, and associates...what a great tribute to your husband and father! I am so proud to be part of this "Lentini bloodline". For me, I remember his gentle soul, his laughter, and that Gram loved him very much... Grandpa thought a music store would never be successful...as he proved him wrong! Knowing that he is with Gram again, brings comfort to my soul, the two of them holding each other with pure joy..... my heart mourns for those who mourn...this void is the best part of you he took with him. He accomplished the Lord's purpose for his life, and I say..."well done"...may the Lord bless and comfort all of us as we mourn the loss of such a great servant!

Truly no other teacher left anywhere near the mark on our lives as this "Leader of the Band." Mr. Lentine was our mentor, teacher, friend, and encourager through those tumbleweed years of jr. high, high school and college. Whether marching on the football field or competing in state orchestra competition, Mr. Lentine had that unusual ability to draw the best from us while making us feel like the most amazing students in the world. We were so sad to hear of the stores' closings just a few weeks ago; the loss of Mr. Lentine is even harder to accept. Our deepest condolences to the family. He was one in a million. He touched the lives of so many, including ours. We will miss him so.

To the entire Lentine family -
How well I remember "Little Joe" Lentine from my years at Buchtel High School. He was my mentor and guide through the process of making music. His kindness and compassion were only surpassed by his musicianship.
I'm sure that one of the reasons I became a band director was because of his teaching. He was always there to offer thoughts and comments, which were always helpful.
Joe, you'll always be alive in my heart and mind. God bless!

I was very sad to hear about Jospeh Lentine's passing. He was always very kind to me. I didn't really know any band instruments when my mother called to ask if I could be in the Buchtel High School Band. Every few weeks, Mr. Lentine would give me another instrument to learn: cymbals, oboe, cornet. I had a wonderful experience, and he was very patient me. I now play violin/fiddle and have 4 music groups under my company. I'm sure it was his inspiration that took away any fear of learning a new instrument.

To Mike, Kelley and Family,
When I left Ohio in 1979 to pursue my musical dreams in L.A., Lentines Music was a small store and of course, when I returned many years later it was a force to be reckoned with. I know how much hard work and family support that this kind of effort takes and I am proud to know you all and give you my deepest respect and condolences at this time. I urge you to count your blessings, and to remember how lucky you are to have had such a great dad. Just read all the heartfelt tributes...a great life.

I worked with Joe at Lentine's Music for many many years. His work ethic and his compassion for people were a true inspiration. Joe believed that if you don't keep your mind and body moving, they stop. Joe was a real inspiration to all of us. No matter in how many situations I saw him, my favorite was when he was sharing music with kids. He became young again, and his love for children and music just lit up his face. He will be sorely missed and left a beautiful legacy of love for family to his own family.

Mr. Lentine was such a big part of both my life and my brother's (Ken) while we studied with him at FHS. My fondest high school memories are of my years there with him and the love of music he inspired in all his students. It's been almost 40 years since high school, but I can still see his smile and passionate directing from the podium.
He touched the lives of countless individuals over the years and will be remembered fondly by all.

He certainly has left a wonderful legacy here in the Akron and Greater Akron community. Joe will always be "a life remembered."

I always looked forward to playing in the Firestone H.S. orchestra under Joe Lentine. He was a skilled conductor and musician and he will be missed. His orchestra and bands were second to none and I remember spending many a a night in the pit during those long broadway shows; Joe working the music, leading the pit orchestra through all the entrances, dance numbers, and choruses. He was tireless and left a legacy in music education not to be repeated. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Lentine family.

Our deepest sympathy in the loss of Matt's father, Joseph. Our first instrument we purchased for my oldest son, Michael, an alto saxophone, was from Lentine's Music. My family's North Hill memories
of Mr.Lentine run the musical gamut from his providing my eldest brother

mentoring his grandson in the Copley-Fairlawn Schools and benefitting from the generosity and friendship of his daughter-in-law.
Thank you for the

While I was a student at Buchtel Joe taught me the intricacies of what it takes to be a musician.

Mr. Lentine was a mentor for me, alongside his musical partner Wally Nolin. I have such great and fond memories of Mr. Lentine as my band and orchestra director and teacher when I was at Akron North High School from 55-58! He gave us a love for music and treated all of us with such respect as human beings and put up with our teenage antics with a sense of humor and "we're in this together attitude". He exemplified what a great teacher and musician needs to be. I have now taught collegiate nursing for over 30 years and see him as someone who taught me how to treat students so they are in the best mind to learn. My thoughts and prayers to his loved ones and friends.

To my family,
I am deeply saddened that Uncle Joe has passed. He truely is one of a kind. He encouraged me from a young age to play the French Horn and Piano, for that I am forever greatful. They brought me some of my fondest memories, not to mention encouraging my love for music. He has also recently encouraged me to begin my two year old daughter playing the piano everyday...and she loves it. And the memories of the last few Christmas holidays...you have become our 'grandpa' (and Aunt Vee and Aunt Roe our 'grandma's).
