I played guitar with Henson on his TV show in Oklahoma City. He was fun to work with and a nice guy. Last saw him in OKC when I was there for The International Areobatic Championships in the late 1990s. Didn’t know you had passed. Thinkin about you Henson.

I am very sorry to hear of the death of Henson. SKIP A ROPE was a masterpiece. I bought the single 45 RPM record when I was a freshman in high school in 1968. That was a year of great social upheaval in the country and the song was very relevant for the time. Thanks Henson for all your contributions to music.
Rest in Peace

I was a freshman at the University of Oklahoma in 1967 when "Skip a Rope" hit the charts. To this very day, it remains the greatest C&W song ever recorded. Thanks Henson. You will always skip your rope in our hearts.

My memories go as far back of Henson to the middle 70's and early 80's at the Depot Club when I was a waitress there. Henson always had a big smile and lots of charm along with many friends who adored his humor. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time. Skip On.....T.R. Jones Tulsa, Oklahoma

Nikki, Clay, Cash & Marta,
I send this message to you through tear-filled eyes. My heart is broken that Henson is gone. My memories are much fewer than yours, so I can only imagine your grief. Henson, along with each of you, are such a prevelant part of my childhood and I truly cherish every memory of the time I was blessed to spend with you and your family. I was always made to feel at home. This is only possible in a home where there is love. That is what I remember; love and being loved. I also remember crazy moments and much laughter, as well as a few tears, and for that I am grateful. Nikki, I still laugh outloud when I think of your dad's consistently-generous hand as he gave you and I "coke money" before we would go out. In all our time, I don't think we ever found a coke that cost as much as he gave. Of course, we always took the money anyway. Bless each and every one of you. Henson, rest peacefully, and I will look foward to seeing you again where there are no songs of sorrow, but only songs of joy. Until then, I will miss you.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest sympathy to the Cargill family. Henson is one of the greats of Oklahoma Music and the fans of Oklahoma artists today realize this. Henson was voted into the 4th Annual Payne County Line Oklahoma Music Hall Of Fame in early March 2007 by over 1 million votes, second highest ever recorded for an artist. He was loved, is loved and will be with us forever. He was truly one who left the ruts to guide other young artists to the top. He and that awesome smile, will be missed. You all are in our prayers.

Clayton, Nikki and Cash,
The loss of a great man in your life is tough. The loss of a father whom you looked up to for advice and direction is even tougher. I can't tell you how much I hate hospitals after the loss of my father two years ago after a simple surgery. I miss the times going out to your house in the early 80's for a good party. My prayers are with you.

Cash, Clayton and Nikki,
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I have nothing but great memories of my time with your family. There are many memories but the one that stands out the most of him was riding by myself with him and your mother from OKC to Roswell, NM in the spring of 1978. That was so long ago.
Just last week I downloaded "Skip A Rope" from iTunes for my iPod...
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
