Alton Fritts Obituary

Alton Lee Fritts died September 21, 2007, in Moore, Oklahoma. Alton was born March 14, 1917 near Marlow, Oklahoma, to John Clinton Fritts and Letitia Ola Scott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Williamson Fritts on November 6, 2001. Also preceding him in death were one brother, James Victor Fritts, and two sisters, Anna Lorraine Marek and Oleta Wycoff. Alton attended a rural school at Rock Springs near Marlow, and attended high school in Marlow. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Oklahoma City and attended Draughon's Business College from 1934 to 1935. While attending college, Alton worked in the kitchens of the Skirvin and the Huckins hotels. In July, 1935, he began working for Standard Roofing Company in Oklahoma City in the Accounting Department. In 1943, he was drafted and entered the aviation cadet program in the U.S. Army Air Corps. While at Brooks Field in San Antonio, Texas, he piloted B-25's. Alton remained stationed there until late 1945 when he was discharged to return to Oklahoma City. He returned to Standard Roofing to continue his career as an accountant and pilot. On April 18, 1947, Alton married Evelyn Williamson, who was born in Franklin County, Texas, and was the daughter of a Nazarene minister. A son, Terry, was born to the couple in 1948 while they were living in Bethany, Oklahoma. In 1951, the family purchased a 160 acre farm in the south part of Moore, and another son, Scotty, was born in 1953. Alton and Evelyn attended the Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene where they made many friends over the years. In 1973, he assumed the role of CEO of Standard Roofing, Standard Materials and Standard Home and worked in those companies until 1995. His son, Terry, moved back to Oklahoma in 1998, and cared for his parents throughout the remainder of their lives. Alton leaves behind his son, Terry and his wife, Judy of Moore, and his son, Scotty and his wife, Lucy of Oklahoma City; as well as grandchildren, Jason Fritts and his wife, Kelli; Susan McColl and her husband Chris; Lindsay Fritts and Jackson Fritts. Alton also had eight great-grandchildren. We give thanks to God for a wonderful father and grandfather. Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Vondel Smith South Colonial Chapel.
