Dorothy Melton Obituary

Dorothy Bandy Langston Melton was born in Ft. Worth, TX, the first daughter of Nora E. Long and Rufus Y. Bandy. She grew up in Bartlesville, OK, and after graduation from Bartlesville High School, attended Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham College) in Pittsburgh, PA. While making her home in Oklahoma City, OK, she was associated with Thomas E. Nix, Jess Harris and Jess Harris, Jr. in the oil and gas industry for approximately forty years. During this time, she became a member of, and has remained active in several professional organizations including Executive Women International, the Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs and the Oklahoma City Association of Petroleum Landmen. She has been an active member of All Souls Episcopal Church and enjoyed participating in many social and philanthropic organizations through the years, including the American Institute of Discussion, Junior Hospitality Club, Delta Gamma chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma, Freedoms Foundation, The Oklahoma City Art Museum Volunteer Association and Lyric Guild. Dorothy has also enjoyed belonging to Modernette Book Club, M&M Investment Club, The Sooner Unit of the American Contract Bridge League and several other clubs over the years. She was predeceased by her parents, Nora E. and Rufus Y. Bandy of Bartlesville, OK; M.M. Langston, Sr., and Richard F. Jones. Dorothy is survived by a beloved family consisting of her husband John V. Melton; her daughter, Deborah K. Langston; her son, Maurice M. Langston, Jr.; and her grandchildren, Marisa Langston Simon, Harper Langston; great- grandchild, Lucy Rose Simon; sister, Elizabeth Borne of Arkansas; brother, Rufus Y. Bandy, Jr. and his wife Edith Bandy of Bartlesville, OK; numerous nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Souls Episcopal Church, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, The Oklahoma Museum of Art or the charity of choice. Funeral services will be held at All Souls Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. Sat., Nov. 10, 2007, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Viewing will be held Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

I met Dorothy when I became a member of the D&D Club of OKC. I loved her stories and the knowledge she passed on. In 2006 I had the privilege of taking Dorothy to the D&D meetings. She was a wonderful lady and I will truly miss her.
