Raymond Lawyer Obituary

Lawyer, Raymond Stephen, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2008 in the company of his loving family and was received into the arms of Jesus Christ our Lord. Ray was born on July 21, 1922 in McKenzie, North Dakota. He graduated from Pepperdine University in 1945. It was at Pepperdine that Ray fell in love with and married his wife, Joann. They were married for 62 wonderful years and had two sons, Kem and Kurt and one granddaughter, Andrea. Remaining family are Joann, Kem and Holly, Kurt and Jody, Andrea, and two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Nicole. Ray coached basketball and tennis and taught drivers education at Fullerton High school for 35 years. He loved all athletics and was an avid golfer. Ray attended Sunny Hills Church of Christ where he was a deacon. Ray had a very strong faith in the Lord and that love and spirit showed in his everyday life. He genuinely loved people and wanted to talk to them. He made each person he met feel important. He had a strong dry sense of humor and warm and friendly personality with a smile that made people feel at ease and laugh. There will be a memorial service held at Sunny Hills Church of Christ in Fullerton on April 5, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. As Ray battled Alzheimer's disease in his last years, donations may be made to the The Alzheimer's Foundation of America or the Alzheimer's Association. I am very sorry to hear of Ray Lawyer's passing. I had a Driver's Ed class at FUHS with Mr. Lawyer in 1956 and also remember summer swimming lessons earlier with the Y at FUHS' pool. He had a great sense of humor and tolerated a lot from us [especially sitting on the right side when we drove those stick shift cars]. My condolences to his family. I know he is continuing his journey with the Lord with grace.

I remember him as a very pleasant tennis coach who tolertated my low level of skill.

I have a blog with information for Fullerton Union High School alumni and several alums emailed me the news of his death. I have copied his obituary to that blog so that students who missed it in the paper may see it. They will be sad, but will recall happy moments with him.

Mr. Lawyer was one of my favorite teachers at FUHS. He had a great sense of humor and a kind heart. He was somebody us students could truly look up to. My condolences to your family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm sure today's memorial service will be a celebration of your dad's wonderful life on earth as well as the joy of his eternal life with the Lord. God Bless you all.

Mr. Lawyer was my drivers Ed. teacher in 1955. I admired him greatly and still remember what he taught me about driving on the freeway..I am sorry for the family loss. I've always remembered him.
