Thomas Hayes Obituary
HAYES , THOMAS B., JR. Thomas B. Hayes, Jr., of West Linn, passed away at the age of 54 on April 10, 2004, in the presence of his family. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sharon Marie Hayes. Born on September 28, 1949, in Corvallis, Oregon to Thomas and Lenore Hayes, Tom spent his childhood developing a generous good nature and a passion for music. His energetic spontaneity came out in his improvised piano playing, and in high school he was a member of the bands Six Short Knights and I-5. His adventurous personality led him to spend a summer during his university years meeting and charming people from Oregon to New York and back during a legendary cross-country motorcycle trip on his BMW motorcycle. He graduated with a degree in history from Oregon State University in 1973. In 1974, Tom married Sharon Marie Rogers and, after whisking his new bride away from the reception in a chartered helicopter, they embarked on a marriage and partnership that was full of mutual love and respect. Overjoyed to be a father to his three children, Tom spent time as a T-ball and soccer coach during their school years and, as they grew up, never failed to offer them unconditional love, support, and sound advice. Tom's zest for life and charismatic ability to win people's trust and admiration through his honesty, integrity, and desire to help others led him into a successful career in commercial real estate. After living for several years in San Jose, California, he moved his young family back to Oregon, where he founded his own business and worked with the dedication of a man who finds true meaning and enjoyment in his work. He was proud to be an SIOR and member of CORFAC International. Tom is also survived by his father, Thomas Burke Hayes of West Linn; his children, Catherine Lenore Hayes, Jennifer Marie Hayes, and Richard Rogers Hayes; sister, Gail Hayes Davis and her husband, Dr. Michael Davis, of Portland; brother, Richard Hayes, and his wife, Cathy Hayes of Acworth, GA; mother-in-law, Lucille Reed of Corvallis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob and Liz Rondeau of Camas, WA and Jim and Jill Rogers of Cincinnati, OH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. An open memorial service honoring the life of Tom Hayes will be held at Christ Episcopal Church at 1060 Chandler St., Lake Oswego, on Friday, April 16th, 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Legacy VNA Hospice-Portland, PO Box 4484, Portland, OR 97208, or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, PanCAN, 2221 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 131, El Segundo, CA 90245.
