Calvin Spengler Obituary
The son of the late Leonard and Lydia (Foerster) Spengler, was born July 23, 1924, on the family farm in Auburn. Calvin was a lifetime member of Zion Beaver Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong farmer, being born, raised and residing on the family farm his entire life. Calvin was also a longtime employee of Monitor Sugar. In 1970 he was honored as Farmer of the Year by the Bay County Soil Conservation District. Calvin was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He found great joy tending to his own garden and always planted lots of flower beds around his home for passersbys to enjoy.
Calvin is survived by two sons, Ronald (Sue) Spengler of Jackson, and Michael (Nancy) Spengler of Bartlett, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Spengler of Marquette; seven grandchildren, Noah (LeeAnn) Spengler, Brian (Alison) Spengler, Andrew (Jessica) Spengler, Thomas (Jennifer) Spengler, Jennifer (Vince) Spurgis, Jason (Chelsea) Spengler and Carrie Spengler; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Stieve of Bay City and Elaine (Dewey) Pegler of Florida; four sisters-in-law, Lorine Knoerr, Eleanor Schlicker, Marilyn Schlicker and Elaine Streeter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Calvin was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. (Schlicker) Spengler in 2000; a son, Mark Spengler in 2004; two sisters; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
The funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Zion Beaver Lutheran Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael G. Buchhorn and the Rev. Steven M. Stolarczyk. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Calvin will lie in-state at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service.

To all of Calvin's family, May God with with you all in this time of sorrow. I remember him as a great neighbor an friend when I lived on Beaver road. He is now joined with Doris and God in a much greater place!!!

Sorry to hear about your father, I know that he and my father were good friends. Dad couldn't make it to the funeral, because he is at Caretel for rehab, but we know that his thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.
