Wayne Lee Cato 73, of Palestine, went to be with his Lord on April 13, 2008. He died at his residence. He was born in Palestine on Oct. 17, 1935 and grew up in Palestine. He graduated from Sam Houston State University and served in the 2nd Armored Rifle Battalion of the 144th Infantry of the National Guard. He was also retired from the TDC Coffield Unit. He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie, parents Lee and Dorcas Cato, sister Jerry Cato Selman and a step-daughter Janet McSwain. He is survived by nieces and nephew Jennifer Selman Robbins, Gretchen Selman Chiles, and Thomas Selman. Also surviving are step-children Mary Hardin and husband Dexter, David Hudson and wife Debbie, and the late Janet McSwain’s husband Bob. Grandchildren are Kip Harding, Lisa Boutwell, Mark McSwain, Chad and Brian Hudson, and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Zachary Robbins, Mark McSwain, Kip Hardin, Thomas Selman, Raymond Rogers, and Bob McSwain.Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey and Foster Chapel, Palestine with Rev. Clint Bass officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

May God bless your family. I worked with Wayne for several years at Coffield. He was the utmost professional, always leading by example. But more than that, he was just a really good man.

Rest in peace, Wayne. This world is a better place for having known you.
