To the Parrillo Family,
Mr. Parrillo was one of my son’s favorite teachers at St. Nick’s. My son, Brian was the last class to graduate with him at St. Nick’s (Class of 2006). I will never forget Brian coming home talking about how Mr. Parrillo punished him when he did wrong and Mr. Parrillo would also say to Brian do I have to call your mother and tell her to hit you over the head with the frying pan that she makes the meatballs with? We would be hysterical at the dinner table. Brian also has a younger sister Nicole and unfortunately Nicole will never experience him as a teacher. However, whenever he saw Brian whether it be after Mass or on the street he would say are you being nice to your sister Brian? I could go on and on with endless stories that my son would bring home to us. But the one story that has stuck in my head was about death. To be able to talk freely about it meant that you were always prepared to die and Mr. Parrillo would always talk freely about death to his students telling them not to be afraid. Well over the past couple of weeks Brian has told me that he reads on a daily basis what Mr. Parrillo wrote in his yearbook. He said he wants to grow up to be the kind of person Parrillo knew he could be. I think that is a wonderful testament of the lasting impact this man has made in everyone’s life who knew him. I am greatly sorry for your loss. The Moffitt Family

Mr. Parillo has taught me a lot when I was in St. Nicks. I wish that I got to know him since he was one of the best teachers that had ever taught me in school. He would make us laugh in class. I'll never forget what he told me before graduation. Always work hard and try your best. R.I.P. Mr. Parillo.

I was very sad to hear about Danny's passing. He was an old friend from high school years and I went to his senior prom with him. His mother was a friend of my aunt Sylvia and my mother, Almerinda. His mom was a spunky and warm person and loved her son very much and that affection was reciprocated. He was always very sweet and I met him only once again at a reunion. I have not seen him in years but was very happy to read about all the people he impacted through his short life. He lead a giving and caring life and the accolades from his many students tell the story the best. My deepest sympathies to his friends and family.

Mr. Parrillo was a good man and was on his way of becoming a true server of God. But unfortunately, these things happen. I will forever miss him and Ill never forget the best of times in his class. I am just really proud that I had the chance of being a student of Mr. Parrillo. He is somewhere special now, and probably is talking Gods ear off and is happy with his family. Thats what Id like to think. Mr. Parrillo, you are alive in each and every one of us, and are STILL a member of our community. I will see you in heaven.

My deepest Sympathy to the Parrillo Family. Mr. Parrillo was one of the best teachers in St. NIck's, even after he left to go off to the seminary. His presence was still always felt, because you knew he was never too far. We were on vacation when we got the news, it was such a shock, and when I had to turn and tell my son Sam and his friend Brian of the news it was so hard to see their faces, it was as if they had lost a best freind. He made such an impact on their's and so many lives. they had the honor of being his last class and giving him such an honorable send off by the whole class of "2006" singing "Hero" to him while he sat in the center of all his class who looked at him as nothing less. I also had the pleasure of having Parrillo as my teacher and that was an experience i'll never forget. Mr. Parrillo also recruited my husband in on CYO Sports, which he always said, it was a unique experience. The only regret I have is my daughter missed out on such a memorable teacher. My thoughts and prayers also go out to Mrs.Grimditch and all the staff at St. Nicholas R.I.P Mr.Parrillo you will surely be missed. The Shipley Family.

Leave it to Danny Parrillo to teach us the same leasons in death, that he taught us in his life. He taught us the value of education, family, neighborhood, friendship and religion. He taught us these values because he lived them, day to day. I knew Danny for close to forty years. I considered him a good friend and now regret that we did not spend much time together over the past ten years, even if it would have been to share stories about the 76ers or his recent trips. I realized the other night at his funeral service that there are many ways to measure the wealth of someone. Danny was rich in frienship and was visibly loved by the many people he knew. We need more Danny Parrillo's in our lives, its a shame that the original was taken away too soon.

I was very saddened to hear of
Mr. Parrillo's passing. I was one of his many students and have to say he always had a way to capture our attention and keep us in line. He did this always preserving our respect for him and offering a sense of friedship, a task not easily accomplished. My sincere condolences are sent to the Parrillo family during this difficult time. I'd also like express my deepest sympathy to the Grimditch family, especially Mrs Grimditch as I know how very close you were professionally and personally. I hope all can find solace knowing he is with god and in peace.

Mr Parrillo taught my husband, his sisters, cousins, a newphew and our daughter. He would Not use her name, would call her a cousin's name instead. He knew when he met her that she was her father's daughter :) He had a ton of expressions, and we heard them all through our daughter...."you can give tylenol a headache"...
He was a really nice man, and someone nearly everyone new in South Philly. I'm sorry he didn't reach his Earthly dream, but he is with God, and he's at Peace, with Him.

God Bless Mr. Parrillo, his family, his friends, students, and Parishes

There are no words to describe what an influence Dan has had on my life for the past 25 years. There isn't a memory of any significant event from the last quarter century that he wasn't a part of. I cannot imagine the next 25 years without him. He was just like a part of our family, always there to share in festivities, provide friendship and even go on vacation. He never failed to provide support during the grief we suffered when we lost loved ones or rejoice with us during the good times, like after the births of my 4 children. My son Jonathan was honored and privileged to have him as his Godfather, even if it was just for a brief 8 years. I am planning to make a scrapbook for my son with memories and photos. I want him to have that to take along with him in his life whenever he misses his "Uncle Danny."

I cannot begin to understand why Danny was taken from us and sometimes the pain of his loss is too much to bear. But I am inspired by Dan's example of faith and I will continue to put my trust in our Lord and His Mother who Dan loved so much. I do know that Jonathan, and all of us for that matter, now have a strong and powerful intercessor in Heaven.

Al, Joe, and the rest of the Parrillo family, you have my deepest sympathy and condolences. I know no words can take away your pain, but I hope all of the memories and tributes can give you strength during this difficult time. I hope that the knowledge of how much Danny was loved gives you some solace. I have prayed fervently the last week that the Lord bless you with His Grace and Peace.

Danny, my dear friend, rest in peace. I hope you know how much I love and appreciate you for all that you were to so many of us.

I want to thank Mr. Parrillo for his commitment to delivering a solid foundation for my educational goals and instilling in me the importance of a Catholic education. I was fortunate to have Dan twice as a teacher at Saint Nicholas, both in the 6th grade as well as the 8th. I will never forget the endless replays of his vinyl record collection of the Flyers Stanley Cup, his commitment to the Safety Patrol, or that whistle dangling from his neck whenever he refereed those after-school football and hockey games at 8th and Mifflin in Southwark Schoolyard. Nobody tossed a penalty flag onto the “cement” football field like Mr. Parrillo.

Thanks for making education fun Mr. Parrillo. It’s because of your influence and the many other wonderful teachers at Saint Nick’s that I have made it a goal of mine to carry on the tradition of family values, a solid education, and a Catholic Religion within my own family.

Thanks again and rest in peace Mr. Parrillo.

Just a note to let Dan's relatives and friends know that a part of him has been, and will continue to be, with me at Mass on a regular basis. As an ordination gift, Dan gave me a beautiful pall embossed with a Marian symbol/logo on it.
I have used it on a daily basis at Mass since July 1, 2007 when I began my first parish assignment as a newly ordained priest at St. Francis Xavier Church in East Providence RI. Dan's deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was truly an inspiration for all of us at Immaculate Conception Seminary.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen

It is difficult to sit here this morning, writing about the passing of such a wonderful man. I look at my daughter and hope that she is privleged enough to someday have someone influence her life in the same way that Mr. P. influenced many of us.

His devotion to our faith and to the education of children is commendable and he will always be remembered for that.

From time to time people lament the state of the Church, and often they have reason. Hearing of someone like Mr. Parrillo convinces me that God is continuing to provide living lights in the darkness, and it has uplifted me to hear of his life and his witness.

Saint Margaret Mary once said, "Be humble towards God and gentle with your neighbour." I only knew Danny as an acquiantence for the past few years, but over the past three months, as a newly ordained priest, I was able to get to know him a little more. In sending me to serve at Saint Monica's for my first assignment God blessed me so much and He blessed me all the more in getting to know Danny. Danny made me feel right at home. He supported and welcomed me and I am so very grateful to the Lord for what He accomplished through Danny and for what He will accomplish. Life is changed now, but not ended. Danny was a man of God and a man for others. He knew who he was before the Lord and he helped us to discover this as well. He truly was a man of humility and gentleness, a model. May God continue to inspire more young men to be like Danny. To listen to the Lord's voice and to have the courage to follow wherever He leads them. May He rest in peace. Amen.

Returning early from his vacation, Dan was present to welcome the new men to Immaculate Conception seminary. This generous, self-giving seems to be a hallmark of his life.

May he be welcomed by choirs of angels on the far side of the Jordan.

Dan was a tremendous influence on all who met him. Our children, especially our son Michael, adored him. In fact, when Dan entered the seminary, Michael had just became an altar server at St Agnes Church in the Diocese of Camden. Dan was the one who convinced him to become an altar server, as he had asked Michael to serve his first Mass with him once seminary was done. Sadly, that will never happen now, but I trust Dan's ideals were instilled into my son, and now Michael has an honored remembrance of Dan. Rest in peace, dear friend. Love, the

Danny, what does one say when you lose an icon?- you came into our lives 19 years ago-when Trish
started teaching at St. NIcks-You immediatley became our friend and eight months later you were siting there at
our wedding.-Then you were at the hospital with Bern when Shane was born pretending to be grandparents just to get
a peek I can't begin to tell you the impact you and Bern have had on our life-

So much of Trish"s dedication to the athletic program and how she maintains relationships with her students
is modeled after you. There is no where we go that we don't run into one of her former students
and alway the first question they ask us is "how is Mr. Parillo - is he still there?" I am awed by the number of people
that Trish taught over the last 19 years that still call her on the phone-or write her letters-or send a wedding invitation
and at all of these times she usually ends up in a conversation about" POPE" PARRILLO.

I wish I could tell you about all the times in the last three years that Shane had his friends over the house
and your name came up. I never had a teacher that made that kind of impact on me, but I
am sure glad shane had the oppertunity to have one-I am not sure that right now he even realizes the full impact
that you had on him, but as the years go by he'll begin to understand.

Every week you called- even when you left St Nicks for the Seminary-you called weekly. How many times did you
pick up your phone messages only to hear a desparate voice seeking the answer to a question Shane had as he
ventured into high school religion and needed guidance with his homework. It was no surprise that you always called back.
Who knew time was short? Who will answer those questions now?

Remember when Tyler bit Shane on the stomach - how many years did you torture him with that question in your trademark voice "did you bite Shane"
Tyler will always treasure the lunches He and Vincent had with you and Bern up in the classroom. I only wish he would have had the experience of having
you for a teacher

I just came from your funeral mass-Truly a POPE PARRILLO production three Bishops and over 60 priest plus a boat load of seminarians
4 hours of non stop people who wanted to pay thier last respects and then not a seat left empty for the mass. I once had someone tell me
that the true measure of a mans life is told by the number of people that show up at his Funerale-well Dan what a life you had!!!

This is tough on Trish-but she will be talking to you soon if not here it will be in her prayers-but I wanted to thank you for being our friend

Rest in peace Dan.

For me Mr. Parrillo truely was a life changing teacher because he (along with the other 8th grade teachers) helped me become the person I am today. I can still hear him screaming MAG-DA-LANE-YA when thinking back to those days during history comes alive and those classic classroom moments. He always made class time fly by with his colorful stories and pleasant/perky personality. Mr. Parrillo was always generous, kind, caring, and most importantly loving. Thankyou Mr.P for everything but most all thankyou for giving me the ability to smile back on those days as the happiest two years of my school career. My deepest condolences to the Parrilo family..he was the best and shall always live in our hearts.

What a shock to hear of Mr. Parrillo’s passing. He will be greatly missed. I was lucky to have Mr. Parrillo in the 6th grade (1976-77). Back then I thought he was such a “tough” teacher, but when I think back today it was more like “love”. A “tough love” for his students to strive and be the best they could. He didn’t settle for mediocrity. If we didn’t know a word, you learned it. You learned to spell it, read it, know its meaning, but when you were done, you remembered it. I had the chance a few years ago to see him again at our 25th year reunion (Class of 79) and was hoping to see him again at our 30th. God Bless Mr. Parrillo and may your memories shine down on us for many years to come.

Love,

Mr. Parrillo was something else! Aside from all of the comedy... all of the funny stories, I will remember Mr. Parrillo, first and foremost, as an excellent teacher. When I entered high school and college, I didn't have trouble writing papers. That's because Mr. Parrillo knew how to teach English, and he taught it well. Now that I am in graduate school, I realize the special thanks I owe to Mr. Parrillo. I wish I could see him just one more time on 9th and Watkins, or driving down 10th Street to let him know and to thank him for being the such an outstanding Catholic School educator.

Though Mr. Parrillo is no longer with us in the physical sense, he will live on forever through the generations of people he taught, coached and befriended. And, I hope that his family and loved ones may find comfort in this.

He won't be forgotten.
May he rest in peace.

It is extremely difficult to find people in this world today that have the sincerity, generosity and spirituality that Mr. Parillo possessed. Yes, he had his little eccentricities about him, but that is what made him so special and unforgettable. I am happy and proud to say that I had him as a teacher. He is someone who will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace dear Mr. Parillo.

A big chunk of what I am today comes from Mr. P. I often look back to a very, very specific moment of my 8th grade, and mark that as the first waypoint along my career. I would not have achieved my goals without Mr. P having been a part of my life. It's sad to think that so many will be deprived of the chance to have their life touched by Dan.

Mr. Parrillo’s passing is still unfathomable. A man with so much life, so much presence, so much faith and love touched each of us in such a way that our lives will never, ever be the same without him physically in them. He was my teacher, my friend, a confidant, a spiritual model, an unforgettable human being whose quirks and booming voice, whose lessons and kindness, whose sincerity and dedication to each and every student who ever walked into his room will undoubtedly remain wrapped around the memories we have of him. He made us laugh, he made some of us cry, he made us realize some people really do touch our lives and hearts forever. That he took the time to do the “little” things we all remember that made our 7th and 8th grade years treasured memories are why I became a teacher…why many of us do the things we do. These memories will keep us safe and warm…these will give us comfort when we realize he really isn’t coming back, that we won’t see him at St. Nick’s or across from us at our dinner tables, have a chance spotting of him on the street and call to him from a block away just to hear his infamous "HOW ARE YOU?", stand before him as he offers his first Mass… Still so unbelievable… … Yet those moments of our lives with him in the past is how Mr. Parrillo will live on within each of us in the future. I guess that is our gift to him. For he was--without a doubt-- a heartfelt gift to my family and me as he was to many. I am forever indebted to his generosity and love and will miss him more than words can say. Mr. Parrillo, may perpetual light shine upon you my friend. Rest in Peace.

There was always a story at the dinner table about something that happened in school, and how Mr. Parrillo handled it with wisdom. I will never forget the phone calls I would receive and the patience you provided. They were classics!!!! We are better people for having your teachings in our lives. May you Rest In Peace!!!

As the rest of the entries said Danny was and will always be an amazing man! I had the pleasure of working with Dan at St. Nick's for 2 years before he entered the seminary and always remember him being so supportive of everyone. My condolences go out to the Parrillo family . I know he will always be in our hearts and now is watching over us from above. Rest in Peace Danny! You will be greatly missed!

To the family of Mr. Parrillo,
I am truly sorry for your loss, and pray the Lord will comfort you during this difficult time. I am thankful to have had a teacher like Mr. Parrillo. He not only provided a strong foundation for learning, but taught all of us many important life lessons. He was respected and appreciated by his students. I will never forget my years at St. Nick's and the wonderful memories, many of which Mr. Parrillo was a part. He was a role model for many young people and will be missed. May you rest in peace.

Danny was a special person and a great friend. No one can ever take his place. He was always there for me and I remain for ever grateful. In our conversations on the phone he would always greet me with "THE LORD BE WITH YOU" and now he is with the Lord Jesus and our Blessed Mother. He would always tell me not to worry because he was praying for me as he did for all of us and then he would say "I owe the Blessed Mother a bottle of tylenols". Well done Danny, you were a good and faithful servant. Thank you for your friendship and example. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Indeed, Danny Parrillo was a man more worthy of heaven than of earth!

I was in shock when I heard the news of Mr.Parrillo's passing. Not only was he a memorable teacher for me, but also a memorable person to me and all my friends. He was definitely the most religious person I have ever met...but that was who he was. I will never forget all the fond memories I have of him...there are too many to count:) My condolences to his family and also to the St.Nicks staff because I know how close you all were to him...He will be truly missed! I will always hear him calling me "Inez" in my heart.

Danny was not only an excellent teacher, but an irreplacable friend. He was always there for us whenever we needed him. He always tried to instill in us how to be good followers of the Lord. Years later, when I would become not only a former student, but a teaching collegue with him at St nicks, he taught me so many things. He taught me not only how to be a good teacher, but how to be a good Catholic teacher. I will miss him so much. I will miss him calling me "Betty Boop", the nickname he himself gave me. I will miss hearing his voice through the halls of our school. But mostly, I will miss his loving, generous and caring friendship. Danny, thank you for always being a constant inspiration and wonderful friend in my life. Words cannot express how much I will miss your presence in my life. Thank you for all the wonderful memories you have given to myself and to so many others. Rest in peace.

Danny (Mo)- we have been friends for many years sharing in the education of our Catholic youth. Although we haven't been in touch a lot recently I know how exciting it was for you to have been on your way to becoming a priest. The people of God have been deprived of a man who would have been a "true" priest. We had so many great times together in the late 70's into the early 90's. You loved to travel, and of course, to eat. I'll never forget the night at Capriccio's in Resorts when the chef came out to make sure that the order of food for you and your dearest friend, Leonard, was legit. My sister would call you each Christmas Eve to get your famous crab salad recipe. Speaking of Christmas, you probably had all your gifts bought already for this coming year. How many nights we spent hanging at Bonnie's (J&G's) at 16th and McKean - watching and betting the games, singing Sinatra songs with Dingles(even though you had the worse voice of all time), playing the machines, drinking a little?, and arguing a lot! We had great times everywhere we went. You were always worried about your mom and all the students that you taught, but that was you - always caring for someone else. You lived our faith and how fitting was the fact that your passing occurred on the feast of St. Monica - you lived in the shadow of St. Monica your entire life. Well, heaven has a new saint and we here on earth have lost a wonderful friend and teacher. Pray for us and know that your legacy will not easily be forgotten. Love and peace.

You were alot of fun and you taught us well. You will be missed dearly. I wish i would've seen you more after i graduated but you went to the priesthood. Mr. Parrillo has taught me a lot during and after school. The one thing I will miss a lot is when he yelled at me stay awake in his class and pay attention. I have kept my promise to him that I will do good in school, and I wish I could show him my awards and report card to show how much I have turned around in my work. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait. I will miss you a lot and I hope I can see you again.

I was a member of St Nick's class of 1999 and had Mr. Parrillo for a teacher in 7th and 8th grade. Mr. Parrillo was an amazing teacher and human being. He left every class he taught with the funniest memories and sayings that will last a lifetime. He was a teacher who was encouraging, thoughtful, funny and commanded respect. I will never forget sitting in his classroom, the laughs, the activities, the life lessons. May he rest in peace in Heaven and watch over his family, friends, and former students and continue to guide us just as he did in St. Nicks. Mr Parrillo, it was an honor and a blessing to have known you. My condolences to the entire Parrillo family and a special condolence to Mrs. Bernadette Grimditch, Mr. Parrillo's teaching partner for countless years. They made an awesome team. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
With love,

Dan Parillo was larger than life not just physically but in the joy and inspiration he brought to people. It was always pleasant to be with him because he was never complaining or whining about difficulties he had. Rather, he spent his time asking others how he could help them. No one could be sad in his presence. Let's hope his memory will do the same for us.

To the Parrillo Family:
We are so sorry for your loss. As a parent of a student of the St Nick's class of 2006, I got to know Mr. Parrillo through school, school trips and CYO sports. He was a great person and teacher. He always made us laugh but when he needed to be serious, he let you know how much he cared and was always ready to help. My son & I were so upset when we heard of his passing, but God must have special plans for him in heaven. There will never be another person like him and he will be sadly missed by all of us. Rest in Peace Mr. Parrillo and watch over all of us like you always did.

A good man. A good seminarian. Honest, loved by his community, respected by his students, admired by other seminarians and priests including myself. An honor and a pleasure to have known him. He will be missed. A loss for the priesthood, but now a gain for the kingdom.
May St. Monica intercede for him and the Lord give his family consolation.
