Shizuko Smith

Shizuko S. Smith VIRGINIA BEACH - Shizuko Shibata Smith, 81, formerly of Virginia Beach, passed away Aug. 8, 2008, in Centerville, Mass. A native of Onga Machi, Fukuoka, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Kikoue Shibata. World War II was the backdrop of Shizuko's teen years. Following the war, she met her husband, Air Force Tech Sergeant George Smith while George was stationed in Japan. They moved to California and later to Virginia Beach, raising their children and settling into the community. Shizuko enjoyed reading, bowling, Bingo, and especially time spent with her grandchildren. Shizuko is survived by her two sons, David Smith and his wife Sherri and Richard Smith and his wife Melissa; and beloved grandchildren, Kirby, Gillian, Zachary and Renny Smith. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A funeral will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
