Gladys Mitchell Obituary

Gladys M. Mitchell Robert W. Mitchell NORFOLK - Gladys May Mitchell, 93, passed away Saturday evening, Aug. 9, 2008, in the arms of her best friend and longtime caretaker, her husband. Then later that week her beloved husband, Robert William Mitchell, went to join her in heaven Aug. 13, 2008. He was 88 years of age. Gladys was born in Philadelphia and Bob was born in Virginia. Gladys had retired as a bookkeeper for a local golf course and Bob was a heavy equipment mechanic at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center until his retirement. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army and the Navy through the Merchant Marines. Left to cherish their memory are daughter, Christine Linehan; three granddaughters, Anne Richardson, Karen Fay and Diane King; three great-grandchildren, Meredith and Rachel Fay and Austin King, who had a special relationship with his great-grandfather; and several nieces and nephews who will all miss them dearly. A private funeral was conducted in the Cox Funeral Home. They will be buried together in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Gladys will best be remembered for her love of animals so her family requested memorial contributions be made to your local SPCA.

I do volunteer work at Consulate Health Care. Mr.&Mrs. Mitchell were
very faithful to come to the music
program that I would do on Mon.
mornings. They would come when they felt like it. They were a precious couple and I will miss them.
My husband, Roland works there and
he would go and visit with them almost every day. God bless all the
family and our thoughts and prayers
are with you.

I did not know the Mitchells, but what a beautiful tribute to a lifetime of love that they shared together. They were blessed to have found each other, and have a conviction to make their marriage work! You were fortunate to have family like that, and my sympathy for your loss.
