Evelyn Reid

Evelyn A. Reid CHESAPEAKE - Evelyn A. Bowser Martin Reid, 86, of the 4000 block of Cedar Grove Crescent, departed this life Aug. 11, 2008. She was a native of Portsmouth, the widow of Jonah Reid, and the daughter of the late Alice and Harry Bowser. She was predeceased by four brothers, Willard, Harry, James and Jerome Bowser. Evelyn was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she was a missionary, deaconess, member of the former Senior Choir, Sunday school teacher and former directress of the Sonshine Band. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Association, Order of the Eastern Star-Truxton Chapter, the Tents, Church School Union and Lott Carey Convention. She was a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Patricia M. Murphy; three sons, Harvey E. Martin Jr. (Cheryll), Reuben M. Martin (Nancy) and Aldwyn C. Reid (Elizabeth); six grandchildren, Angeline Murphy Hall (Rickie), John Murphy Jr. (Crystal), Troy Martin, Deana Martin (Rohan), Mekema Reid and Netesha Reid; a host of great-grandchildren; one great- great-granchild; mother-in-law, Rebecca Skeeter Reid; sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Bishop Curtis E. Edmonds will officiate. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
