Richard Groome Obituary


Richard A. Groome CHESAPEAKE - Richard A. Groome, 64, passed away Aug. 15, 2008. He was born Oct. 15, 1943, the son of the late Forrest L. Groome and Pauline Gober Hallett. He was a member of the Maury High School graduating class of 1961 and went on to Old Dominion University to study drafting. Following his studies, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Okinawa during the Vietnam conflict. He was retired from the City of Virginia Beach after more than 30 years of service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rosemary; daughter, Tracy L. and her husband James C. Roth of Collinsville, Ill.; son, Chris A. Groome of Virginia Beach; brother, Wilbur R. and his wife Barbara Groome of Virginia Beach; his loving two granddaughters, Samantha L. and Sheridyn Z. Roth, both of Collinsville; aunt, Helen Gober of Nashville, Tenn.; also many nieces and nephews. The viewing will begin with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Tom Mercer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard's name to the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association, 870 Greenbrier Circle, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
