John Lingard Obituary


John Elvery Lingard VIRGINIA BEACH - John Elvery Lingard, 85, of the 900 block of Fleet Drive, passed away Aug. 12, 2008, in his home. A native of Seekonk, Mass., he was the son of the late Elvery and Elizabeth Lingard and the widower of Eleanor B. Lingard. He retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. following a 30-year career serving in various management positions in several locations throughout the northeast. Prior to joining Sears, Roebuck and Co., he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviator with the rank of lieutenant junior grade. He flew sea planes primarily PBY's in the Pacific Theater where he saw service in Hawaii, the Philippines, Japan and China. He is survived by his two children, Susan Walsh and husband John of Pawtucket, R.I., and John Lingard Jr. and wife Gayle of Virginia Beach and his sister, Marion Roberts of Waverly, Ohio. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Lingard of Barrington, R.I. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at noon in Atlantic Shores Retirement Community-Anchor Room. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Crystal Cathedral, c/o Dr. Robert Schuller, 13280 Chapman Ave., Garden Grove, CA 92840.
