Edith Montague Obituary


Edith W. Montague WINDSOR - Edith Whitmel White Montague, 81, passed away Aug. 19, 2008, in Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor. She was born March 12, 1927, to Patrick Henry and Mary Elizabeth White of Windsor. She attended Windsor High School, graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and received her nursing degree from Greenville General Hospital, S.C., in 1946. As a registered nurse, she worked briefly in Richmond, but was employed for most of her career with the Bertie County Health Department where she was a nurse, nursing director and interim health director until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Cashie Baptist Church. Whit was predeceased by her parents and by brothers, Patrick R. and Harold M. White. She is survived by her husband, Merle R. Montague of Windsor; daughters, Debbie Montague of Chapel Hill and Beth Montague of Cary; son, John Montague of Raleigh; and sister, Elizabeth White Williams of Greenvillle, S.C. The Montague family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Three Rivers Health and Rehab and a Bertie Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care they provided. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Edgewood Cemetery. Arrangements by Walker Funeral Home, Windsor. Condolences may be directed to www.walkerfh.net.
