George Powell Obituary


George A. Powell Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - George A. Powell Sr. went to be with the Lord Aug. 19, 2008. He was the son of the late George and Eva Powell. George was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Jan. 1, 1930. George proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 24 years. While serving his country in Japan, he became a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church and Thalia Lions Club, a volunteer at Sentara Leigh Hospital, the American Red Cross and Judeo Christian Outreach. Mr. Powell is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Powell of 36 years; five children, George Jr., Patricia, David, Eva and Paul; two stepchildren, Melani Loney and Morris Hill; nine grandchildren; and many friends. A service will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner's Road, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross.
