James Taggert Obituary


James D. Taggert NORFOLK - James D. Taggert, 82, passed away Aug. 14, 2008. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent the majority of his life helping others and will be dearly missed. He was born in Freeborn, Minn., to the late Joseph and Catherine Taggert Irvin and was also predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Taggert; a son, James Daniel Taggert; a grandson, John-Michael Taggert; two brothers, David and Joseph; and three sisters, Mary Agnes, Margaret and Catherine. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Honululu (CL48). He was retired from the City of Norfolk as a plumbing inspector and was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union, Local No. 110, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 3160 and was a longtime member of Christ The King Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Catherine M. Taggert; his five children and their spouses, Jean Marie Thurston (Lou), Patrick Taggert (Dawn), Michael Taggert (Pamela), Kenneth Taggert, and Joseph Taggert (Rebecca); 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Edward, Paul and John Irvin. A Memorial Mass with military funeral honors will be held at Christ The King Catholic Church Thursday at 7 p.m. celebrated by Father Brian Rafferty. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Christ The King School, 3401 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509. Cremation & Funeral Services of Tidewater is handling arrangements. www.candfservices.com.
