Florence Nixon

Florence Nixon SUFFOLK - Florence Geneva Carpenter Nixon, 89, died Aug. 22, 2008, in Sentara Obici Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mills S. and Betty Moore Duck and the widow of Lawrence B. Carpenter and Otha Rudolph Nixon. She was predeceased by three daughters, Mary Frances Asbell, Elnora C. Upton and Mamie Elizabeth Harrell. Mrs. Nixon worked for Birdsong Peanuts and Tidewater Blanching as a picker. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Frances Geneva Mathias of Suffolk, Stella Mae Trout of Pensacola, Fla., and Betty Jane Crumpler of Macon, Ga.; two sons, Lawrence Carpenter Jr. of Edenton, N.C., and King Solomon Carpenter of Providence, R.I.; 32 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and many great-great- grandchildren. A funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, by Dr. David Blevins with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
