Robert Bonney Obituary


Robert L. Bonney VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert Lee Bonney of Naples, Fla., died Aug. 19, 2008, after a short illness. Born Sept. 26, 1909, he grew up in Virginia Beach and lived there until moving to Florida in 1969. He was the founder and operator of Bonney Motor Express Inc. and once served as president of the Virginia Highway Users and on the Virginia Beach Police Board. He was a Mason and former Grand Master of his lodge in Norfolk. He was beloved by all who knew him and he never met a stranger. He was married to Mary Thelma Bonney who passed in 1996. She was his passion and his life. Surviving are his sons, Bob and Wayne; three grandchildren, Brenda, Blayne and Kristin; nine great-grandchildren, Timothy, Michael, Christie, Carrie, Jacob, Seth, Noah, Conner and Kelsey; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Makayla, Brent, Cayden, Carlie, Kayla, Corbin and Keira. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at The Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Road, Richmond, VA 23223.

Mr. Bonney was a fine gentleman. I met him only a few times in Naples, Florida. I personally know his son Wayne whom always praised his dad. I am sure he will be missed but now is in a better place.
