Cornelius Purvis Obituary
Cornelius D. Purvis NORFOLK - Deacon Cornelius D. Purvis, 82, of the 2700 block of Woodland Ave., departed this life Aug. 22, 2008. A native of Norfolk, he was employed for 35 years at the Norfolk Naval Air Station until his retirement. He was a member of the Prince Hall Masons and a 50-year member of Joshua Lodge No. 66. He was a longtime, faithful member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Catherine Freeman Purvis; sister, Verna Trotman of Baltimore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Friday in Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. We invite you to send a condolence message to the family's guestbook at www.pretlowandsons.com.
