Doris J. McLin NORFOLK - Doris Jones McLin, 75, of the Norview Heights section of Norfolk, died Aug. 28, 2008, in her residence with family at her side. Doris, a lifetime resident of Norfolk, was the daughter of the late Annie Culpepper Jones and Alton Lee Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband of more than 56 years, John McLin Jr. Her life was truly centered on her faith, family and friends. She devoted her life to taking care of others, including her parents and husband until their deaths. She raised not only her own four children, but helped with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, foster children and neighbor children. She was a faithful member of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and secretary for the Beginner's Dept. and was recently a member of the Golden Fellowship Class. She was also a member of Colonial Chapter No. 40 Order of The Eastern Star in Hampton, Va. Doris enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and family. She loved watching major league baseball games, especially the Atlanta Braves. She is survived by her daughter, Ann M. Mead and her husband John D.; son, John A. McLin and his wife Janyce; daughter, Alice M. McLin; son, William L. McLin and his wife Clara "Bea"; grandchildren, Joshua, Molly and Jonathan McLin; brother, Raymond L. Jones and his wife Jean; brother-in-law and sister-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for all the many acts of love and friendship, and especially prayers during the last years of her life. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel, Norfolk. An Eastern Star service followed by a celebration of her life will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Dr. Paul Lawson with interment to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Diabetes Association,
