Mildred Edwards Obituary


Mildred V. Edwards PORTSMOUTH - Mildred V. "Nanny" Edwards, 90, of the 300 block of Avondale Road, passed away Aug. 27, 2008, in her residence with her family at her side. Mildred, a lifetime resident of Portsmouth, was the daughter of the late Martha and William Pope Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 46 years, Lloyd G. Edwards; brother, William Pope Jr.; sons, Robert E. "Sonny" Edwards, Maurice Edwards and Lloyd Edwards Jr. Mildred worked for 20 years for Owen's Pharmacy in Portsmouth and was admired for her wit when interacting with her friends. Nanny loved to sit on her front porch for hours and talk with the neighbors passing through. She was a disciple of Divine Baptist Church in Chesapeake. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Mildred Ferguson (Milton) of Chesapeake and Barbara Connor (Willie) of Chesapeake; one son, Russell Edwards Sr. of Portsmouth; special friend, Fenton Faulk; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 11 great- great-grandchildren; and a host of many other family members and friends. A celebration of Mildred's "Nana" life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Divine Baptist Church, Galberry Road, Chesapeake. Interment at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portsmouth. The family will received friends at Corprew Funeral Home Sept. 2 from 7 to 8 p.m.
