Gloria Boyd-Shearin Obituary


Gloria J. Boyd-Shearin CHESAPEAKE - Gloria Jean Boyd-Shearin, 56, of the 400 block of Kemp Lane, passed away Aug. 28, 2008. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Norfolk. She went on to graduate from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State University receiving a bachelor of arts in home economics. Professionally, Gloria worked for ARA/Laidlaw Transit for 15 years before transferring to Norfolk Public Schools transportation department in 1991 where she held the position as a driver trainer. For the past 17 years, she was known to many as simply "Ms. G." She deposited a spirit of love in everyone she encountered. That love will continue to echo among her survivors including her husband, Milton E. Shearin of Chesapeake; daughter, Shauneille T. Boyd of Virginia Beach; a sister, Harriett Edwards of Chesapeake; four brothers, Al Smith and James Smith, both of Chesapeake, Theodore Boyd (Robin) of Portsmouth and Ray Boyd of Washington, D.C.; one granddaughter, KaBrina A. Boyd; a sister-in-law, Margaret S. Bell (Alonzo); a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 934 W. Little Creek Road, Norfolk. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will be Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St., Chesapeake, with a meet and greet with the family from 6 to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at their home at 410 Kemp Lane, Chesapeake.
