Joe Adkins Obituary


Joe Henry Adkins Sr. POQUOSON - Joe Henry Adkins Sr., 68, of Rens Road, passed away Sept. 2, 2008, in Riverside Regional Medical Center. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., he was retired from NORSHIPCO. He was a member of Bayside Christian Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 39 and the Boilermakers Union. Joe is survived by his son, Joe Adkins Jr. and wife Betty of Poquoson; three daughters, Melissa Davis and husband Donald of Jacksonville, Fla., Lori Coyle and husband Mac of Missouri and Jamie Juneau and husband Leslie of Bridge City, Texas; four grandchildren, Starlitt Davis, Eli Davis, Kara Adkins and Chelsea Adkins; 14 stepgrandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Sarah Malo of Pennsylvania; and his companion, Maria Eckert of Virginia Beach. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Petijean, Chaplain Will, Julie, Jessica, Steve, Margaret, and the staff at Riverside PACE, Mercury Boulevard, for the wonderful care and support provided to our father and grandfather. As well as the caring staff at Riverside Regional Medical Center, George Washington Memorial Parkway and the Riverside Convalescent Center, Old Denbigh Boulevard. A funeral will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, with the Rev. James Christopher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family will have a reception at Bayside Christian Church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Riverside Health Systems Foundation, Make a Difference Fund/ PACE, attn: Debbie Atkinson, 701 Town Center Drive, Suite 1000, Newport News, VA 23606.
