Robert Reckling

Robert L. Reckling VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert Leonard Reckling, 72, died peacefully at home in Virginia Beach with his wife and family by his side Sept. 4, 2008. Bob was born in Norfolk April 25, 1936. He worked for Virginia Power for 11 years before opening Thalia Exxon in 1965 which he operated for more than 40 years. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Henry and Sarah Reckling; and two brothers, Ernest Jr. and Bill Reckling. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Jo Nancy DeHart Reckling; three children, Bobby Reckling and wife Nancy, Cindy Kalasinsky and husband Alex and Chris Reckling and wife Cathy, all of Virginia Beach; and six grandchildren, Jackie and Mallory Reckling, Sarah and Anna Kalasinsky and Cameron and Casey Reckling, whom he loved very much. He is also survived by three loving sisters-in-law and their husbands, Agnes and Bob Whitfield, Linda and Henry Giese and Debra and Sam Clay, as well as many nephews and nieces from Virginia and Newfoundland, Canada, whom he thought a great deal of. Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion for his family and many friends, especially his Circle from Norfolk Catholic, his RV Club members, and his Sunday Breakfast Club. He will forever be remembered for his generosity, love of BMW motorcycles and NASCAR, extensive traveling and meticulous yard work. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church celebrated by Father Luke Policicchio, OSB. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4416 Expressway Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452 or to a charity of one's choice.
