Florine Smith Obituary


Florine P. Smith NORFOLK - Florine P. "Granny" and "Puddin" Smith, 87, of the 7400 block of Rosefield Ave., passed away Sept. 3, 2008. She was born June 10, 1921, to the late Daisy and Charlie Parker in Newport News, Va. She was a member of Holy Jerusalem COGIC where she was mother of the church. She was also a member of the Salvation Army, Golden Girls and the League of Mercy. She retired from Sheller Globe as a cutter after 21 years of service and from Norfolk Social Service after 15 years as a foster parent. She was predeceased by her husband, Grandison L. Smith Sr.; sister, Ruth Harris; brother, Paul Parker; and granddaughter, Nicole E. Watson. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Olivia S. Smith (Teeny), Freda R. Smith (Fenton) and Katie Jones; one son, Grandison L. Smith Jr. (Debbie); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; special friend, Newland Walker; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Harbour Point Rehab Center, Dr. Abolhassani and Dr. Hagimomenia for the dedicated service given to Florine. A funeral will be held at noon Tuesday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 525 Dinwiddie St. Dr. Jake Manley will officiate. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 2609 Woodland Ave. one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel, is in charge.
