Ida Koerner Obituary

Ida Koerner VIRGINIA BEACH - Ida Koerner, 79, went to be with the Lord Sept. 5, 2008. On May 16, 1929, the mold was broken when she was born in Trieste, Italy. Ida was a character - a walking, funny story filling her family's lives with anecdotes. Above all, Ida was a loving, nurturing mother who lived for her children and grandchildren. She was very creative with flowers, enjoyed knitting, going to the gym to swim, and cooking large meals for her family and friends. Ida was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Robert L. Koerner. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. James Dario Koerner and wife Jill of Texas; two daughters, Sheila Grice and husband Shane of Australia and Ivy Koerner-Ellis of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Russell, Amanda, Tara, Jackee, Zach, Kenneth and Alexis; two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Caitlyn; and one granddog, Winkie. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Rob Pittman. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. To celebrate the life of Ida, please visit her Everlasting Memorial at www.mem.com.
