Richard Riddick Obituary


R. Elmo Riddick HOBBSVILLE - Richard Elmo Riddick, 80, of Sandy Cross Road, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. Mr. Riddick was born in Gates County and was the son of the late James Augustus and Nina Simpson Riddick. A graduate of East Carolina Teacher's College, now East Carolina University, he taught school for a short time and later retired from the Virginia Dept. of Transportation having worked many years as a draftsman. A member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, he taught the Adult Men's Sunday school class for 48 years and had served his country with the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen Abeyounis and Madeline Riddick and his brothers, Roy and Waverly Riddick. Surviving are a niece, Linda Ricks of East Peoria, Ill.; four nephews, James Riddick of Edenton, Steve Riddick of Hertford, Phillip Abeyounis of Bethel, N.C., and William Abeyounis of Newport News; two great-nieces and three great-nephews. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Burial will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and other times at his brother Roy's former home, 94 Sandy Cross Road, Hobbsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Cross Baptist Church, Hobbsville, NC 27946.
