Sydney Miller Obituary


Sydney Hubert Miller CHESAPEAKE - Sydney Hubert Miller, 80, of the 2000 block of Maywood St., passed away Sept. 7, 2008, in Chesapeake. A native of Thacker Mines, W.Va., he was raised in Fedscreek, Ky., and was the son of the late George M. and Elsie A. Miller. He retired as an industrial management specialist from SUBSHIP after 32 years, and also retired from Snellings Funeral Home after 10 years of service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church where he was ordained a deacon in 1966 and taught a Friday night Bible class for 10 years. He was also a former deacon and Sunday school teacher for 25 years at Deep Creek Baptist Church and was active in the church Benevolent Fund Work. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nell C. Miller; his daughter, Gail Miller Walker and husband Donald of Chesapeake; his son, Jackie Miller and wife Jean of Elizabeth City, N.C.; three grandchildren, Alan Anderson and wife Cindy, Jared W. Miller and wife Ashley, all of Suffolk and Jenna Lynn Miller of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy Anderson and Alexis Anderson; and a brother, Johnny Miller of Suffolk. A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Greco and the Rev. Bobby Skeens officiating. The burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Hwy. Chapel, Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 1322 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, VA 23323 or Hope Haven Children's Home, 3000 North Landing Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
