Blanche L. Powers GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Blanche L. Powers (nee Lee), 90, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Norfolk, beloved mother, grandmom and sister, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sept. 6, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John H. Powers Jr., in 2004; her daughter, Patricia Smith; her brother, Murrell "Bubba" Lee; and her grandson, William Holbrook. She is survived by her children, Betty Holbrook of Kingsville, Md., John H. (Beth) Powers III of Vermilion, Ohio, Beverly (Ken) Kenny of Huntley, Ill., Kenton (Bonita) Powers of Comstock Park, Mich.; son-in-law, David (Kathy) Smith of Royersford, Pa.; brother, Howard (Edith) Lee of Chesapeake; brother-in-law, Norman (Marjorie) Powers of Virginia Beach; sisters-in-law, Aline (Robert) Hudson of Virginia Beach, Esther (Lee) Sink of Collington Harbor, N.C.; grandchildren, Albert, Beth Ann, Robert, Bradley, Bryan, Brandon, Carl, Adam, Keith, Taryn, Sarah, Tiffany, Chris, Alexis, Todd, Summer, Stacy, Kyle, Christopher; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Powers was a deacon in the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Eastern Star and was a secretary of John H. Powers Inc., but mainly, she was a loving wife and mother. Her interests were her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her one great-great-grandchild. She enjoyed a good game of bridge, playing board games, knitting, reading and shopping. She also enjoyed traveling and she and her husband used to belong to the Nomads Travel Club. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Porter Hills Presbyterian Village Retirement Home, 3600 E. Fulton St., NE, Grand Rapids. The family will meet with family and friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.
