Oscar Tillotson Obituary


Oscar Lee Tillotson BUFFALO JUNCTION - Oscar Lee Tillotson, 87, widower of Gladys Tillotson, died Sept. 8, 2008, at Meadowview Terrace. Mr. Tillotson was the son of Hamlin Mayes and Myrtie Hall Tillotson. He was born in Buffalo Junction and moved to Norfolk in 1940 to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. After serving in the Army during World War II, he returned to the shipyard retiring after 36 years. He was then a contract supervisor for Moon Engineering for eight years. He was a member of Larchmont Baptist Church, a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 60, a member of Atlantic Lodge No. 2 and Khedive Temple. The youngest of nine children, he is survived by his sister, Flora McPeters of Richmond and stepgranddaughter, Patricia Burns of Silver Spring, Md. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. His wife, Gladys Tillotson, died in 1992. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. William Weeks officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
