Veta Baker Obituary


Veta P. Baker NORFOLK - Veta Estelle Payne Baker, 84, of the 5900 block of Lathan Road, passed away Sept. 8, 2008, in Lake Taylor Hospital. A native of Wanchese, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Cynthia Payne and the widow of Winston Lee Baker. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Wanchese and locally attended Virginia Heights Baptist Church where she belonged to the Fidelis Class at the church. She is survived by two sons, Charles Baker and his wife Carol of Westminster, Md., and Bruce Baker and his wife Joyce of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Brandy Baker and Eric Baker, both of Norfolk; and a sister, Vilma (Blacks) Williamson of Nakina, N.C. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Virginia Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Vintinner officiating. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
