Claudia Shields Obituary


Claudia Shields MANTEO - Claudia Shields, 53, died Sept. 9, 2008, at her residence after fighting a brave battle with cancer. Ms. Shields was born in Plainfield, N.J., and was a former resident of Hampton, Va., and Hagerstown, Md. She worked in real estate as a rental manager, was a member of Frail Quails Fishing Team and was an artist. She will be greatly missed by the communities of the Outer Banks, Hampton and Hagerstown. Ms. Shields was the daughter of the late Frederick Shields Jr. and the late Agnes Trembley Shields. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Shields. Ms. Shields is survived by son, Andrew Robert Shields of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; Dee's partner in life and beach pal, Sam Johnson of Hampton; sister, Linda Shields White and husband Ray of Nags Head, N.C.; sister-in-law, Beverly Shields of Manteo; brother, David Shields of Dillon, Colo.; and niece, McKenzie White. A memorial service will be held at the chapel of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Randy Green officiating. There will be a reception in the parish hall following the service. The family will also receive friends Friday after 7 p.m. at the home of Ray and Linda White in Nags Head. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dare Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954 or a charity of your choice.
