Thomasine Carter Obituary


Thomasine Jones Carter NORFOLK - Thomasine Jones Carter, 66, departed from us to enter into her life of eternity on Sept. 11, 2008. She was born Feb. 24, 1942, and was one of 15 children of the late Thomas "Cody" Jones and Hattie Victoria Neely Jones in Norfolk. Thomasine was educated in the Norfolk Public school system and served as a medical professional at Bon Secours DePaul Hospital for 20 years. Thomasine was a lifelong member of St. Mark RZUA Church in Norfolk and served on the usher board and sang in the choir. She leaves to celebrate her homegoing her five children, Kevin Carter (Linnie), Joseph Carter, Cheryl Carter Thompson, James Carter Jr. (Carolyn) and Georgia Robin Carter. She also leaves a legacy to 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, six sisters, two brothers and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Thomasine was predeceased by two grandsons, a sister and five brothers. A homegoing celebration will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mark RZUA Church, 1513 Colonial Ave., Norfolk. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 1340 West 39th St., Norfolk, one hour prior to the service for procession to the church. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Metropolitan Funeral Service Chapel, 7246 Granby St., Norfolk. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
