Ruth Jones Obituary


Ruth Jones CHESAPEAKE - Ruth S. Jones, 85, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, in her home in the 2400 block of Sir Lance Drive, Chesapeake. She was born Ruth Marjorie Simpson in Johnson City, Tenn. Her parents were Charlie and Virginia Simpson. She was raised in Mount Airy, N.C., by her grandparents, John and Mattie Lou Simpson. She was a member of Indian River Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Floyd T. Jones; four children, Linda McGrath and her husband Thomas McGrath of Statesville, N.C., Gerald Jones and friend Michelle Rhodes of Jacksonville, Fla., Edward Dale Jones of Chesapeake, and Jeanie Harris and her husband Jack Harris of Chesapeake. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Chris Barnes, Brian McGrath, Melissa Ellis, Jack Harris III and Joseph Harris and seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Samantha and Sabrina Ellis, Cody and Brady Barnes, Anna and Caroline McGrath. The funeral will take place Thursday at 11 a.m in Indian River Baptist Chruch, 1600 Laurel Ave., Chesapeake, the Rev. Bob Jordan and David Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6309 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.
