Blake H. Congleton Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Blake Harrison Congleton Jr., 91, passed away Sept. 14, 2008. Blake was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Portsmouth. He was the son of the late Blake Harrison Congleton Sr. and the late Birdie Hope Congleton. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dora Eubanks Congleton. He was also predeceased by his half sister, Thelma Harrell and her two daughters, Phyllis Harrell Bradford and Norma Harrell Ortt. Blake was a lifetime member of Court Street Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and baptized there May 8, 1927. He served on many committees of the church, including being chairman of board of deacons and church trustee. He was a member of the Downtown Bible Class which met at Freemason Baptist Church where he served as president in 1995. He was a Mason, being a member for more than 60 years and was a member of Bayside Lodge No. 218, a life member of Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, and also a life member of the Khedive Shriners. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Blake retired as general foreman for Shop 56 in 1973 after 35 years from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard having entered there as an apprentice in 1938. Blake is survived by his wife, Sara Tribble Congleton of Virginia Beach; stepdaughter, Susan Tribble Harris of Norfolk; two stepsons, Arthur Tribble and Grady Tribble of Norfolk; five stepgrandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; and his cousin, William T. Congleton Sr. and his wife Margaret of Virginia Beach. A funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Court Street Baptist Church with Dr. L. Wilbur Kersey officiating. The burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
