Donna,
My deepest regrets in your time of loss. Darrell was one of the "good guys" and made everyone feel at ease. He was truly a "pilot's pilot" and would always stand behind his fellow pilots and flight attendants.

When I was hired by Piedmont after the Braniff bankruptcy I had one of my first flights with Darrell to Denver on the 727. He made me feel welcome and his humor assured me that I had made the right decision coming to work for Piedmont . I'll miss him.

Darrell will be missed by us who knew and flew with him. I was always thankful for him for taking my father up with him when he was doing takeoff and landings practice in Norfolk. That probably was the biggest excitement for my father. I will never forget the time we closed the door in CVG and took the agent with us to Huntington ,WA. It took that agent all day to get back to CVG. He made us laugh. What a character! I will always remember him. I extend my condolences to his family.

Darrell, you are a large part of the best of the best memories of my flying career, the early days when I was still wide-eyed & in awe even after having grown up in the airline industry.
I wish you strong tailwinds, brilliant & calm sunsets & a huge grin. Make a nest up there for the rest of us to join you, OK?!
Love & comfort to your family, Darrell,

I met Darrell through Quiet Birdman, but had heard many stories about him. Darrell was fun to talk to and had many good stories from the Piedmont Airlines days. He lived where I had a condo and when we would see each other it would always end up with at least 30 minutes aof hangar talk. Good guy.
