John Sykes Obituary
John D. Sykes Sr. NORFOLK - The Rev. John D. Sykes Sr., faithful minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, died Sept. 18, 2008, in his 76th year. He was a founding member of Seaford Baptist Church and he served as pastor of Moyock Baptist Church from 1967-1969 and of Brentwood Baptist Church from 1969-1998. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley Gupton Sykes; his children, Dr. John D. Sykes Jr., Jayne Sykes Scholl, the Rev. Shearon Sykes William and Paul E. Sykes; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters; and four brothers. A memorial service will be held at Azalea Baptist Church, Norfolk, Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245 or Development Office, International Mission Board of the SBC, 3806 Monument Ave., P.O.
