Mary Luke Obituary


Mary Parker Luke SUFFOLK - Mary Parker Luke, 91, died Sept. 20, 2008, in Nansemond Point Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center Born in Eure, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lula Ann and Henry F. Parker and widow of Johnnie Westley Smith and Edgar R. Luke. Mrs. Luke was predeceased by four sisters, Gladys Felton, Lucy Eure, Roxy Parker and Julia Whaley and by two brothers, William Parker Sr. and Horace Parker. She was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Missionary Circle and was a retired nurse. Survivors include her two sons, John Kirby Smith and wife Anne B. of Suffolk and Ronald Wayne Smith and wife Delores C. of Hertford, N.C.; four grandchildren, Joseph Kirby Smith of Roanoke, Va., Ronald Wayne Smith Jr., Nicholle Smith Reyes, both of Atlanta, and Tara Smith Young of Germany; great-grandchildren, Sydney Claire Smith and Sheldon Michael Smith, both of Roanoke, and Alex Reyes and Ella Reyes, both of Atlanta.; and sister, Velma Dilday of Suffolk. A funeral will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory with burial in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, VA 23439 or to the American Heart Association, Memorial & Tribute Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
