Letcher Hudgins Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Letcher A. Hudgins Jr. died in the early morning of Monday, Sept. 22, 2008. He was 81. Born in Norfolk, he graduated from Maury High School, served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and graduated from Virginia Tech with the class of 1950. Mr. Hudgins was an executive with Eastern Associated Coal Corporation and affiliated companies for 36 years, retiring as the resident manager of Eastern's Norfolk office. He then worked for Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home until 2005. He was predeceased by his parents, Letcher A. Hudgins and Savina Minter Hudgins. He is survived by Margaret Stuart Hudgins, his wife of 57 years; his sons, Letcher A. Hudgins III and his wife Patricia J. Herron of McLean, Va., Jeffrey Stuart Hudgins and his wife Pat of Virginia Beach; his sister, Capitola Buchanan of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Megan Hudgins of Suffolk and Stuart Hudgins of Boston. He is also survived by a special niece, Nancy B. Perry and her husband Samuel E. Perry Jr. of Amelia, Va. He was an active member of Bayside Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, where he served as an elder. Services for Mr. Hudgins will be held at the church Thursday at 10:30 a.m. His burial will be private. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
