Saeed Nizami Obituary


Saeed Ahmad Nizami ELIZABETH CITY - Dr. Saeed Ahmad Nizami died peacefully at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Va., Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at 6:24 a.m. Dr. Nizami was born in Bachhraon, India, May 27, 1934. Both his mother, Sideeqa Khatun and father, Saeed Ali Nizami, who worked as a lawyer in Hasanpur, were also from Bachhraon. Just like his father, he also practiced law at Hasanpur, Moradabad and Rampur. In 1957, he came to United States to study at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he obtained his Ph.D. Afterward he made his way to North Carolina via academic teaching, finally settling in Elizabeth City. He retired as a professor from Elizabeth City State University. It was always a pleasure to converse with him and one could instantaneously admire his wit and intelligence. Life for Saeed Ahmad Nizami was a neverending journey, a quest where there was never any stopping. Dr. Saeed Ahmad Nizami leaves behind his brother, Fareed Ahmad Nizami; sister, Ayesha Khatun in Aligarh; his wife, Najma Nizami; three sons; Mujtaba, Murtaza and Mustafa; two daughters, Fatima and Zahra; his grandchildren, Amir, Safia and Adam of Aylett, Va., and Naima and Alexandar of Dallas. Services were held Sept. 18, 2008, in the Mosque & Islamic Center of Hampton Roads. Interment followed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hampton. Arrangements were under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton.
