William Riday Obituary


William N. Riday VIRGINIA BEACH - William Nelson Riday, 91, passed away Sept. 25, 2008. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late William and Inez Riday. He lived most of his life in the North Shore section of Norfolk before moving to the Atria of Virginia Beach in order to be closer to his grandson and his family. He was a graduate of Granby High School and attended Old Dominion University. William retired as a restaurant equipment salesman. He loved tennis and was a previous Norfolk City tennis champion and had won numerous awards in the Senior Olympics. William proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years during World War II and later was a commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His wife of 58 years, Janet S. Riday and his daughter, Eileen Riday Daniels both predeceased him. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his grandson, Adam Long and his wife Elizabeth of Virginia Beach; two great- grandchildren, Connor and Peyton. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Ratliff officiating. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Maestas Chapel, 1801 Baltic Ave., Virginia Beach is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
